What did you do in the last six months?
At the beginning of the year we finished the last preparations for our new album “Defying The Gods”. Then we started playing the new songs in our rehearsal room, working hard to give the audience the best show possible.
We also recorded our second videoclip of the new single “Whispers Of Hope”, that hopefully will be released very soon. On March 24th we presented the new album in Bilbao together with our friends and label partners Nodrama and Neroargento. It was a great night with a sold-out, and more than five hundred people screaming inside the beautiful old church “Bilborock”. After that, we took a couple of concerts In Madrid and the Basque Country.
What do you’ve in your wallet now?
We have some confirmed dates for the summer in Spain and the Basque Country and we are probing options for a possible european tour after the summer. We want to promote our music as much as possible, that`s why every help is very welcome. Many people have asked us to play in their country, people from all over the world, but unfortunately we have no means to do it. Some others have offered us several dates in european cities, so us we said before, we are trying to link different dates in different countries to manage a tour.
Why this name for your band?
Rise To Fall represents a cycle and the constant changes and challenges that are presented on it. We are supposed to be the most evolved breed, but from our point of view we are using technology and knowledge in the wrong way, creating a regression instead of an evolution. We are living big changes and we sense that the end of the cycle is near.
How much important is the image (look) for your band? Why?
Fortunately or desafortunately the image is primordial in these times, many people judge by appearance and that’s why a good first impression is vital. Of course we give importance to the look, but we don’t dress up to play, we wear our style. We attach great importance to the stage presence and we focus more on the movements and attitude.
Talk to me about the new album “Defying The Gods”. Are you fully satisfied?
We believe that is a big evolution for Rise to fall, is a much mature album and the work done was really hard.We hope our evolutions as musicians is reflected in this record. Then, the work of Ettore Riggoti and Alessio Nero argento has given an special twist to this album. It’s really difficult to be completely satisfied with something that you worked for so long. There are always things to improve or you would have liked it any other way, but we have to say we are very happy with the final result.
Which is the highpoint of this album?
We think it is a very complete and elaborate album. We tried to fuse melody and strength doing our best, we have worked hard to improve our first album focusing on better vocal and guitar melodies, and we hope people realize it.
… And the lowpoint?
For us is difficult to find the lowpoint of this album. After listening the album several times, there are some things that we would have liked to improve, but if we have to say one would be some nuances of the sound that we are not totally convinced with.
Talk to me about your collaboration with Coroner Records!
We´ve got a very good relationship with Coroner records, they are very good people and we are really happy, so we didn´t hesitate to make the 2nd album with them. Thanks to them we are listened all around the world, the album is edited in a lot of countries where people can now buy and enjoy our music. The most important thing for us is to be listened, attract people, and make them enjoy with what we do. Ettore offered us to participate in the 2nd project of Imaginary Flying Machines, and personally, we involved ourselves to the fullest in it. Apart from being a proposal that worked really well with the first album, We are Ghibli studios pictures fans, what it was a plus when composing the song. The result has been really good, the song´s come out perfect, and in addition we had Sophia´s cooperation from Blood Stain Child, as feminine voice. We hope that thanks to this opportunity more people get to know us in japanese lands, and be able to return to nippon lands soon.
What’s your idea of perfect happiness
The concept of happiness is very utopian, we long for things we believe will bring us happiness, but it is not so, is just the beginning of the circle of greed. People who are not happy feel empty inside and believe that the more things they have, the faster they´ll feel that gap, but they are wrong. We must learn to be happy with ourselves, learning to share and live with the necessary, valuing what we have and not depending on anyone or anything. But going straight to the point, our idea of perfect happiness would be to be healthy and to have enough time and means to carry out all our dreams.
Who are some of the bands you admire?
Although our musical tastes are varied, we are clearly influenced by death melodic metal bands like Disarmonia Mundi, Soilwork, In Flames or At The Gates, and those are the bands we appreciate most.
What song is in your head right now?
If we have to choose one, we would choose our last single” Whispers Of hHope” whose chorus sticks in your head easily.
Name 3 words that describe your band.
Strenght, attitude and feeling
The best and worst quality of your band?
The best quality can be the feeling between us, we get along very well despite we are not always agree. And the worst is, without question, laziness. Sometimes we have too many things to do and is not always easy to carry out. Despite this, we do it.
What’s the most embarrassing situation you’ve ever been with Rise To Fall?
We could be talking for hours about funny and embarrassing situations but the worst was in Japan talking with japanese fans. In Nagoya we had dinner with some fans thinking we were invited, finally the give us the bill and we had to pay all the dinner. There was a misunderstanding. The thing is that the comunication with japanese people was quite difficult, but they treated us very well.
What’s the most ridiculous rumour you’ve read about the band?
We couldn’t stop laughing when we were told that Dalay had made his dreadlocks to be like Anders Fridden from In Flames The fact is that Dalay made his dreadlocks 15 years ago!
Do you’ve a good reason to be in Behind Magazine?
We are delighted to appear in Behind Mag, is a good way of promotion in other countries and we are pleased to be in metal media and contribute to spread the metal genre
Something to add?
All we can add is that we are keen to share our music with people around the world, so we invite everybody who don’t know us to listen some of our songs. We also want to thank Behind Mag for this interview, we are really happy to participate in it.
